I was a classmate of Johnny's from first thru 12th grade, and he was like a brother when we were in school. I had the good fortune of running into him about a year ago when visiting Creedmoor. He was the same old Johnny, friendly and interested in those around him. I am so sorry for your loss. Lynn Elliott Caldwell

Even though there was 25 years difference between us, Johnny was one of the best friends I have ever had. He would always listen to the kids when they told him their stories. Lydia always had to stop him to give him a hug. His face would light up and that big smile would pop out. Garrett and Bubba were excited when he told them he would go hunting with them. I wish He would have had the chance. He has always treated the kids like gold. We will all miss him dearly.

John and me worked together many years at Durham Corr. Center. He was always very helpful to me early in my career with the NCDOC. We made each laugh......We never lost touch with each other even after both of us retired. We were co-workers, but most of all, he was my friend....I will miss him......Dave Cates, retired Supt., Durham Corr. Center.

Our thoughts and prayer go out to your family. My husband and I consisted Johnny our friend. We first met Johnny at our Auction. (Tar River Auction) and later saw him often at our store, Missing Link. It was always a pleasure to talk to him.
But the one thing that stands out was his kindness and friendship to our son Joey. Joey loved fishing in your ponds. When our son passed away he stopped by and spoke of our son and made us proud, with his kind words.
There are know words that anyone can say right now to easy the pain. But the kind words and the prayers will help you get through this terrible time in your life.

Our prayer will be with you all.

Dear family of John, I am so sad to hear of John's passing. He was my boss for several years at Umstead Correctional Center but as time passed we became friends. To the family of my dear friend Johnny, my heart is broken at the loss of this man. I loved him greatly and I know he loved me. He would always introduce me as his best friend. That shows just how he felt about me, but he also loved his family like any husband, father and brother should. I know this because I could see it in his face and hear it in his voice when he spoke of them. I am proud to say that he was my friend and I will miss him.

Gail and I were very sadden to hear about your loss of Johnny. He and I graduated from the class of 73 at South Granville HS together. Thirty years later we reestablished our friendship and became quite good friends and supporters of one other's good cause. Please know that you and the family will be in our prayers in the days and weeks ahead. May GOD give you the strength to understand and overcome the loss of such a good man.
Love, Mike and Gail
